How long do I need to wait to have my cat spayed after she has kittens?

Our question this week was:

How long do I have to wait after my momma cat had her babies to get her spayed? Her kitties just crawled out of their box so I am guessing they are about 4 weeks old, not yet eating on their own yet.

Hi – thanks for your email. You wrote asking how long do you need to wait to have your cat spayed after she has kittens? Generally, I recommend waiting until she and you have weaned the kittens. Most kittens are weaned around 6 to 8 weeks. Ask your veterinarian if they have a preference and schedule your appointment.

Best of luck!
