Our question this week was:

Do you have any information on Atkinson's Disease in Dogs. We recently had a 3-year-old German Shepard who developed sudden kidney failure and died. The vet says the dog had symptoms of Atkinson's Disease. Can't seem to find any information regarding prevention, detection and treatment.

Cathy Wade.

Answer

Hi – thanks for your email Cathy. I don't know of an Atkinson's disease. I bet your vet meant Addison's Disease. To be sure – call and ask.

An article that might be helpful to you is Hypoadrenocorticism (Addison's Disease) in Dogs.

Best of luck!
