Advice on cat that gets dirty – does he need baths?
By: Dr. Jon Rappaport

Our question this week was:

My cat Mittens is black and white cat. Sometimes he gets dusty and I believe it's from the carpet in our house. Does cats need to have baths?

Angela Sims

Answer

Hi – thanks for your email. Sometimes cats do need baths. Most housecats keep themselves pretty clean and don't require regular baths. Sometimes just combing and brushing works well for cats.

If you do need to give your cat a bath, you might find this article helpful – "how to give a cat a bath". Cats generally aren't crazy about the whole bath thing – but others like it (they are the minority – trust me on that!).

In general, most cat owners don't routinely bath their cats unless there is some extenuating circumstance such as they get something on their fur.

Best of luck!
