Can cats get over Asthma?
By: Dr. Jon Rappaport

Our question this week was:

Dear Dr Jon,

My 3-year-old cat has asthma and I was wondering if you can tell me if they can out grow this condition like humans do.

Answer

Hi – thanks for your email Nikki. Your question was...can cats "get over" or grow out of asthma. The answer is yes. Some cats can have severe asthma and eventually not have a problem with it. It has not been well documented as far as how many cats actually do this but I have seen it happen.

There are things you can do to try to minimize asthma attacks including low dust litters, minimize use of aerosol sprays, etc. An article that might be helpful to you is Asthma in Cats.

Best of luck!

Dr. Jon

P.S. Do any of you have a some tips on how to "asthma" proof your house to minimize problems? If so, email me! so I can share your story with our users!
