Cat eye health
By: Dr. Jon Rappaport

Our question this week was:

My cat's eyes are runny and his third eye is showing. What could be wrong with him?

Rachel Haynie

Answer

Hi – thanks for your email. You wrote that your cat's eyes were running and his third eyelid is showing. There are several reasons for cats to have "runny eyes" ranging from conjunctivitis caused by a viral or bacterial infection, a foreign body, a corneal ulcer, glaucoma as well as other problems.

I'd recommend that you have your cat evaluated at your veterinary to help determine the underlying problem. I'd hate to overlook it if there is something serious going on.

Articles that might be helpful to you is on our Petplace.com is "Conjunctivitis", "Glaucoma", and "Corneal Ulcerations"

Best of luck!

Dr. Jon
