What types of cat flea treatment are available?

There are several different types of cat flea treatment. Flea powders, flea collars and flea shampoos will eliminate the adult fleas but do little to prevent future flea infestations. These products are cheap and easy but often don't work well. These particular flea cat treatment products can also be toxic to some cats and need to be used with caution and ideally under a veterinarian's recommendation. As an alternative, there are several brands of topical cat flea treatment which last a month or more to kill and or prevent fleas.
