Our question this week was:

Dr. Debra - how long are cats pregnant for? My granddaughter has a cat who she thinks is pregnant but my grandson's cat gave birth and is going to give birth again. I think my grandaughters cat is just getting fat now.

Thanks,

Verna Flaathen

Answer

Hi – thanks for your email. Cats are pregnant for approximately 63 to 65 days. If she is not spayed and you don't want kittens, I'd recommend taking her to your veterinarian for evaluation and possible spaying.

A couple articles that might be helpful to you are Spaying (Ovariohysterectomy) in Cats and Pregnancy in Cats.

Best of luck!

Dr. Debra
