Low Calorie Recipes for the Chubby Kitty

Even though your cat is a little chubby, some homemade treats may brighten his day.

Fishie Delights

  • 4 teaspoons cooked fish fillet (tuna, salmon, etc.)
  • 1/4 cup cooked rice
  • 2 tablespoons cooked green beans, chopped
  • 1/4 cup cooked spinach, chopped

    In a bowl, combine all the ingredients. Serve in small amounts.

    Liver Magic

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 4 ounces calf liver, chopped
  • 1 baby carrot, cooked and chopped
  • 1 tablespoon low-fat cottage cheese

    In a saucepan, heat the water to a boil. Add the liver and cook for 2 minutes. Drain off water and blend meat with the carrot and cottage cheese, mixing well. Cool until warm to the touch, and serve in small amounts.

    Turkey Super Balls

  • 1/2 pound lean ground turkey
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons chicken broth or water
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup oatmeal

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Combine all ingredients. Roll mixture into little balls and place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 F for 40 minutes or until the inside of the ball is not pink. Makes 36 treats.

    Fabulous Fish Tails

  • 6 ounce can of tuna
  • 1/4 cup water drained from tuna
  • 1 baby carrot, cooked
  • 1/4 cup cornmeal
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • Several pinches of catnip

    Preheat oven to 350 F. Combine tuna, water and carrot. Add cornmeal, flour and catnip and mix well. Form a dough, knead and roll 1/4 inch thick. Cut into tempting shapes. Bake at 350 F for 20 minutes on a greased cookie sheet. Makes 12 treats.
