Cornina Grimes

Answer

Hi – thanks for your email Cornina. You wrote that your cat was spayed 3-weeks ago and is now not eating and has mucous on her face. If she is not eating and acting sick, I'd recommend that you have reexamined by your veterinarian as soon as possible. That is not normal.

You cat may have an upper respiratory track infection which can causing sneezing, nasal discharge and mouth ulcers. Many cats that can't smell their food won't eat. I'd recommend that you clean her nose, offer her some canned food or something that is more "smelly" that might encourage her to eat and call your veterinarian.

An article that might be helpful to you is Feline Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (URTI).

Best of luck!

Dr. Debra
