My cat is drooling and is very tired!
By: Dr. Jon Rappaport

Our question this week was:

Hi,

My cat "Max" is usually a very healthy cat. He weighs in at about 16 to 17 pounds maybe even 20 pounds. Since last night he has been very tired looking and he is drooling and his eyes are tearing! What could be wrong with him! Should I be alarmed?

Answer

Hi – thanks for your email. The short answer to your question is yes, I'd be alarmed. Is Max eating normally? Having normal urinations and bowel movements? Does he seem painful?

Drooling can be a sign of a mouth problem or nausea. Some cats that lick something that tastes funny can also drool. If he is also lethargic, then I'd recommend having him checked.

Best of luck!
