Our question this week was:Dr. Jon - I have a female cat that had her 1st litter on Feb. 16. We did not realize that she could get pregnant while nursing that litter. Needless to say, we ended up with a 2nd litter that was born on June 15. This past Thursday (7/10) late in the night one of her kittens became very weak and died Friday night. On Saturday morning, we awoke to find a 2nd kitten dead and the remaining 2 also weak/sick. The last of the kittens died Saturday afternoon. So my mother cat lost all 4 of her kittens within a 48-hour timeframe. I have been watching her closely. She is eating and drinking. She seems to be somewhat lonely (understandable, considering she just lost all of her kittens) but she does come to me for me to pet her and love her. Is there anything else I need to watch for with her?
Shawna RobertsAnswerHi – thanks for your email. You wrote that your cat had a litter Feb 16th and a second litter June 15th (and all the kittens died). You wrote that she seems "lost" but is eating, drinking and affectionate.
You asked what else should you watch for?
To be honest Shawna – it has been a few weeks – I'd recommend making sure she eats and drinks well, has no vomiting or diarrhea or other signs of problems, keep her inside so she can't get pregnant again and have her spayed as soon as possible.
