My cat's weight
By: Dr. Jon Rappaport

Our question this week was:

My cat is losing weight rapidly. Is that healthy or not?

Paige Burns

Answer

Hi – thanks for question. The answer is no. It is not normal for a cat to rapidly loose weight. In fact – it is very disturbing. There are many reasons for cats to loose weight and unless he is on a strict diet (which in itself is not good), it is never normal.

Please watch your cat carefully for additional abnormal symptoms such as: not eating, vomiting, having diarrhea or any other signs. I recommend that you take him to your veterinarian for evaluation.

An article that might be helpful to you is called Weight Loss in Cats.

Best of luck!
