Sneezing Cat
By: Dr. Jon Rappaport

Our question this week was:

Hi,

I have a 10-month-old cat. She seems perfectly normal except she has been sneezing lately. Not a lot about maybe once every hour or so. Is this normal in this time of year?

Answer

Hi – thanks for your email. An occasional sneeze is normal in a cat but sneezing every hour or so is not normal.

There are lots of reasons cats can sneeze. They can sneeze from getting a foreign body stuck in their nose as well as various respiratory infections. The most common cause is for many cats to sneeze is upper respiratory viral infections.

I'd recommend that you make sure she is eating and drinking well and keep a close eye on her. If the sneezing continues, you notice runny eyes, she doesn't want to eat or acts lethargic, have her checked out by your vet.

Best of luck!
