Here is a tip from one of our PetPlace.com users:

When our Maine Coon, Nala, was just a young kitty, she was always where she shouldn't be and NEVER minded. Her walking across the counter tops was a huge annoyance, but we were able to keep her off of them while we were in the kitchen by using the old water gun trick. The problem was that both my husband and I worked all day and could not keep her from jumping in unwanted areas while we were gone.

One day she somehow got hold of a piece of rolled up tape that had been attached to the back of one of my children's artwork. This small piece of tape was obviously very annoying to her which gave me the idea of placing little rolled up pieces of tape all across the counter in random areas.

For the next two days I would come home to find several little tape pieces in the floor and some still stuck to the cat's long fur. After about a week there were no more tape balls in the floor and no kitty prints across the counter top.

She is now 12 years old and still doesn't care to get on counter tops.
