Tips for Cat Urine Odor Removal – A Vet's Advice on Cat Urine Removal Methods

Have you ever wondered about the best method of cat urine odor removal? Have you tried to remove cat odor urine, but can't find something that works? Cat urine is one of the toughest smells to remove and most people do it incorrectly.

Take these tips from a vet for the best way to eliminate cat urine odor.

1.        Get every spot. When most people clean cat urine, they only clean the spot they find. However, a cat who eliminates inappropriately in one spot is likely to do so in another. You must be sure to clean all the spots you can find to discourage inappropriate urination. You can find hidden areas by smelling the carpet (often difficult and tedious) or by using a urine locator black light, which causes urine the glow green or yellow. These come in a variety of sizes and styles; I recommend larger models that look like a small flashlight.

2.        Clean the entire carpet, not just the top-and clean it right. Have you ever tried to clean carpet by spraying product on the top layer of fibers? It probably didn't work. That's because cat urine will soak into carpet padding or baseboards and you need to treat the *entire* area for the cleaning to be effective. First, blot any damp carpet with paper towels. Then, use a product that enzymatically breaks down or neutralizes urine odor molecules. Most people don't use enough product when they clean, so remember: if the label says to saturate the area, do so. Some of my favorite products include Zero Odor, Urine-off, and Nature's Miracle. Other choices include Anti Icky Poo (AIP), eSeaYu Petrotech Odor Eliminator, Odorban, Odornil, and Nilodor.

If you really total cat urine odor removal you absolutely must follow these steps. Remember to clean the area completely and use a product designed to work, not just what's on sale. I hope this information helps you remove cat urine in carpet.
