Not only does extra weight put stress on joints and deter exercise, but obesity may also lead to increased risk of diabetes, arthritis and cancer. Check your cat's conformation to determine if he is too chubby. An obese pet has a rounder girth, a paunch on his underbelly and his ribs are buried.
