Poisoning associated with topical medications is uncommon in dogs and cats. But the topical product most associated with poisoning is usually an incorrectly applied flea product. For instance, a topical flea product specifically meant for dogs can have devastating effects on cats. If your cat is exposed, immediately bath in lukewarm water and dishsoap in an attempt to remove the product. Do not allow your cat to groom the area where the product was applied and contact your veterinarian for further advice. Some pets will need emergency treatment.
