Our question this week was:Dr. Jon,
Do you know if that new drug for pet obesity can be used in cats? I have a really fat cat.
All the best,
John D.AnswerHi – thanks for your email. A new drug was released called Dirlotapide (Slentrol™) that is an oral solution approved for use in dogs only to manage canine obesity. It is not approved for use in cats. I don't know of any studies or use in cats at this time.
Most pets are obesity because they are either eating too much or burning too few calories. An article that might be helpful to you is
Obesity in Cats.
Regards,
Dr. Jon
P.S. – Do you have any great pet tips? I love learning from pet owners and have been looking for some pet tips. I might try to share some of these with other PetPlace users!
