Where do you take a cats blood from?
By: Dr. Jon Rappaport

Our question this week was:

Where do you take a cats blood from? Is it normal to get your cat back from the vet all wet from alcohol?

Answer

Hi – thanks for your email. Your question is about is blood drawn from in a cat? The most common area is the neck – from the jugular vein. If small samples are needed, the inside of a back leg can be used. If a really small sample is needed, an ear vein can even be used.

They commonly wet the hair with alcohol. It is not uncommon for the hair to be wet with alcohol after a cat has had blood drawn.
