Our question this week was:

I have two cats and I would like to know how to stop one from licking and chewing the other cat's collar.

Answer

Hi – thanks for your email Sandra. You wrote asking why one of your cats is licking and chewing the other cat's collar and what you can do about it.

Some cats do like to lick or chew certain things. I'm not sure what it is about your other cat's collar that is attracting the other cat. You can either try a different collar that may be less appealing or try wiping the collar with something like "bitter apple" which is a taste deterrent save for pets that when licked – tastes funny and they tend to leave it be.

The biggest concern is that your cat may actually ingest part of that collar. If that is not likely and she just occasionally licks at it – then it may not be a big concern.

Best of luck!
