The basenji is a hardy African breed that has few known diseases.

  • Fanconi's syndrome, which is a disease of the kidneys that can progress to renal failure.

  • Cataracts cause the lens of the eye to loose transparency and can result in blindness.

    The average life span of the basenji is approximately 13 to 14 years.
