Are carrots bad treats for dogs?

By: Dr. Jon Rappaport

Our question this week was:

Dr. Jon - We fed our lab puppy chopped up carrots and saw some come out in her stools. Should we stop feeding carrots? We wanted a low cal treat.

Answer

Hi – thanks for your email. You wrote that you feed your lab puppy carrots and saw some small fragments of carrots come out in her stool. That is a great low-calorie treat. Sometimes small fragments can come out in the stool but that is not a problem.
