Brushing teeth in dogs
By: Dr. Jon Rappaport

Our question this week was:

Dr. Jon.

Happy holidays to you. I know this may sound like a silly question, but is it OK to brush my dog's teeth a couple times a week with regular toothpaste?

David

Answer

Thanks for your question and happy holidays to you. There is not such thing as a silly question, especially when you are trying to do the best thing for your pet.

It is best to use veterinary formulated toothpaste for your dog. Some of the human toothpastes and baking soda may cause problems. Most veterinary toothpastes are flavored and tend to be preferred by dogs anyway.

An article that might be helpful to you on my site Petplace.com is How to Brush Your Dogs Teeth.

Best of luck!
