There is nothing more heartbreaking than losing a dog and it happens so easily. A gate left open or a hole dug under a fence can have your dog out and running in no time. If they get scared and lost, you may never get them back if you haven't taken the proper precautions. Dogs that are microchipped and wearing id tags have a better chance of finding their way home. If they don't find their way home, the end result could be disastrous. Sometimes though, lost dogs find a kind soul. I just read a story about a dog that lost his home and found another. Pamela Jenkins tells a story about a cold winter day when a surprise came to her home. A friend who was an animal control officer had stopped to talk to her husband and he had a very special charge in the back of his truck. Pamela's husband brought her out to look and she was astounded to realize that the dirty emaciated creature was a wirehair fox terrier, just like their own dog. As she gasped, she heard her husband say, "My wife wants him."

Pamela feed the little dog and let him nap. They were worried if he would make it through the night, but he ate well and seemed to brighten up. In fact, he ate a little too well, because in the morning he had a terrible case of diarrhea.

Pamela carefully bathed him and cleaned some bite wounds that he had. She was saddened to unbuckle his soiled collar, knowing that someone had loved him and she may not be able to find them.

She named the dog Cap, after a Louis L'Amour character because their other dog was also named from the author's books. And although they tried very hard to find Cap's real home, they couldn't find his original owners. In the end, Cap cleaned up, filled out and became the second half of a fox terrier duo. The two terriers are double the trouble and twice the fun. Pamela loves nothing more than to watch the busy boys making mischief all day long.

When asked this year what she wanted for her birthday, Pamela paused and told her husband that she didn't want a thing. She has a pair of wonderfully entertaining scallywags and a husband that really understands her heart. She knows her husband is Cap's angel. She also hopes that everyone's lost dogs return home.
