Do you know of a cheaper source for the drug carvedilol?
By: Dr. Jon Rappaport

Our question this week was:

My dog is on the expensive drug Carvedilol (Coreg) - do you know of a cheaper source for carvedilol?

Ronnie M. - Columbus Ohio

Answer

Hi – thanks for your email. To answer your question, I called Dr. John Bonagura, a professor of cardiology at Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Carvedilol is a heart medication commonly used in dogs.

Dr. Bonagura told me that Carvedilol was recently added to Wal-Mart and Sam's Club $4.00 prescription drug program. This was effective September 27, 2007. It is good for:

CARVEDILOL 3.125MG TABLET 60
CARVEDILOL 6.25MG TABLET 60
CARVEDILOL 12.5MG TABLET 60
CARVEDILOL 25MG TABLET 60

An article that might be helpful to you is Congestive Heart Failure in Dogs and Carvedilol.

Regards,

Dr. Jon
