The weather these days has really made my allergies flare up--how about you? Anything from a change in seasons to an especially rainy day can cause allergy sufferers to sniffle and sneeze their way through the week. And once they start in, it can take a while for them to go away...making you miserable in the process.

Have you considered that your dog might have allergies too? Most owners don't, and I wanted to share some information with you today that could help you identify and solve an allergy problem in your dog.

It's been my experience and that of many other vets that a lot of dogs have food allergies. The symptoms of a food allergy can be mild enough that you don't recognize a problem to severe enough to warrant hospitalization. Learn more about food allergies. Food Allergies.

Sneezing and itching are two major symptoms of allergies but some owners disregard them because their dog only shows them during part of the year. If this happens to your dog, it could be a seasonal allergy. Talk to your vet and check out this great article.

In some cases the symptoms are more severe and your dog could get an acute allergic reaction. What do you do in this case? Read here to find out: http://www.petplace.com/dogs/what-you-should-do-if-your-dog-has-an-allergic-reaction/page1.aspx

Remember: if your dog shows difficulty breathing, eating, or drinking, call your vet immediately. It's better to be safe than sorry.
