Are there dog anti-anxiety medications?

There are some dog anti-anxiety medications. The type will vary depending on the anxiety problem being treated – separation anxiety vs. fearful disorders. Dog anti-anxiety medications are prescription medications you get from your veterinarian. For more information on anti-anxiety medication used to treat separation anxiety, click here.

Generally, medication is the last resort for treating dog anxiety. Most veterinarians prefer to treat it nonpharmacologically if possible. However sometimes medications are prescribed. Examples of dog anti-anxiety medications include: clomipramine (Clomicalm®), fluoxetine (Prozac®) or amitriptyline (Elavil®).
