Our question this week was:Dr.Jon,
Is it really not good for your dog to have beef bones, I mean the big ones, even if they are cooked first?
Patricia LambertAnswerHi – thanks for your email. I'm not a big advocate of giving dogs bones. Some dogs do just fine with them but many dogs will have problems such as bones getting caught in their mouths or throats, vomiting, diarrhea, and/or constipation.
We even have an article on our site called the
Danger of Bones that you might be interested in reading.
If you dog likes to chew and you think he needs an outlet for his chewing, I'd recommending getting him some indestructible type toys that you can put treats in the center to direct his chewing. One example of toy is called the Kong.
An article that might be helpful to you is on our Petplace.com is

Best of luck!
