French fries instead of dog food for my dog?

Our question this week was:

We stopped at Burger King and got a whopper and French fries, which I fed to my dog (a big yellow labLabrador Retrievers Book

). I figure people food might be safer for her to eat since they're saying dry food could be bad, also, not just the canned or pouches food. Heard that on the news today. What do you think?

Answer

Hi – thanks for your email. I understand your concern. It is a very difficult time for pet owners. You think you are doing the best for your pet only to find out there is a problem with the food.

The question comes down to, what should I feed my dog? What is safe? Should I cook? Should I feed table food or human food?

I think that feeding human foods is not what a dog needs and it does not give them the vitamins and nutrients required of their bodies.

Some dogs deal well with eating people food but others will have vomiting, diarrhea or even more severe problems such as pancreatitis.

I'd stick with a good quality dry dog food that is not on the recall list. An article that might be helpful to you is on our Petplace.com is "Nutrition in Dogs".

Best of luck!
