Our question this week was:

How long after my dog nests should she have her puppies?

Andrea I.

Answer

thanks for your email. You wrote asking how long after a dog "nests" does she have puppies?

Some dogs will start what they call "pre-denning" behavior about 3 weeks prior to delivery. Some will do more true "nesting" within 24 to 48 hours but it really varies with each dog.

A couple articles that might be helpful to you are Normal Labor and Delivery in the Dog , Pregnancy in Dogs and
Canine Maternal Behavior.

Best of luck!

Dr. Debra
