I don’t understand how people can leave their pets

We received this email that we want to share with you as a response to our foreclosure article about pets being left behind.

I do not understand how people could just leave their pets (I'm responding to your article on pets left behind as a result of home foreclosures). I was going through a situation where I was about to lose my home to foreclosure. At the time we had a 100 lb pitbull. (We have two dogs now).

In the process of looking for a place to live I would not even consider moving somewhere that would not accept animals. Luckily I was able to save my home and did
not end up moving. Animal owners need to understand that they have many options available to them. You need to be prepared.

Losing a home to foreclosure does not happen overnight. Do not wait until the last minute to make a decision as to what to do with your animals. Their are many vet offices, pet stores and grocery stores where you can advertise that you are looking for a new home for your pet. Check with local animal rescue groups, they may have room for your loved pet.

Thanks,

Tricia A Batchelder
