Dr. Jon - My vet is trying to tell me that for antifungal pills for my dog will cost 4.00 per pill per day for unknown time. Is this true? This site lists ketoconazole at .98 for 100 pills. What is the deal?

Hi – thanks for your email. You asked about the cost for ketaconazole pills. The price varies with the different manufacturers and sizes. I have never heard of 100 pills of almost anything for 98 cents.

Ketoconazole is a prescription medication. I looked at some online pharmacies and found some ketoconazole for about $20.00 for 30 - 200 mg pills. This is also a human medication and should be available at many local human pharmacies. You can always ask your vet to write you a script and shop around.

I'd only use a reputable local pharmacy or a recommended and trusted online pharmacy.
