Section: Overview
Lizard toxicity is characterized by the venomous bite of one of two kinds of venomous lizards, causing a myriad of clinical signs. The Gila monster and Mexican beaded lizard bites are the only ones considered toxic. These lizards deliver their toxins to the victim by injecting a toxin from glands within their lower jaw. However, these lizards are generally quite docile and infrequently envenomate dogs. Most lizard venom toxicity occurs only in the southwestern United States and Mexico. What to Watch For

Most toads are bitter and cause drooling but certain species are poisonous and secrete a toxic substance that can cause serious, or even fatal, illness to your dog.
Coral snakes and cobras are the primary members of this family of venomous snakes. Bites from these snakes are uncommon but are very serious. Immediate medical care is strongly advised.
