My dog was hit with a broom. Can dogs get headaches?
By: Dr. Jon Rappaport

Our question this week was:

Dr. Jon,

I have a one-year-old pit bull that was in a dog fight with the neighbor dog the neighbor hit my dog in the head with a broom several times even though the fight was his fault he knows his dog attacks my dog and he let her out with mine. I need to know if it is possible for my dog to have a headache after being hit in the head with a broom. She is not acting the same. She seems down and not her playful self. She usually comes when you call her right away now she does not come at all.

Answer

Hi – thanks for your email. "Headaches" have not been well documented in dogs. I think it is possible.

I think you have a bigger problem on your hands. if you have a dog that is aggressive, it is your responsibility to control your dog. That may mean you keep him in a fenced in yard or on a leash at all times so he is under complete control. Your control.

Regards,

Dr. Jon
