Pet Chefs – Do You Cook for Your Pet?

All over the world chefs are cooking for the dogs. Why not? Rover deserves that perfect meal too. In Japan the La Coluna Karuizawa prepares special full-course meals for dogs. The chef creates special meals specifically to please the canine palate. The three to five course meals may include gizzard and pumpkin sautéed in olive oil or steamed chicken and tomatoes. At the Four Season Hotel in Georgetown in the United States the pastry chef makes scrumptious treats for dogs that served with Evian water, special bowls and place mats. In some cities, you don't even need to be on vacation to find a fancy feast for your pooch. Check out The Dining Dog Café & Bakery in Edmonds, Washington where the menu includes appetizers, main dishes, desserts and special drinks all for the dogs.

If you can't get out for a four-course canine feast or there's no "chef to the dogs" in your neighborhood, why not become a pet chef yourself? There are plenty of proponents these days for home-cooked dog meals. We've been told for years not to feed our pets table scraps, but healthy meal and snacks prepared in your own kitchen can be an excellent addition to the daily ration of kibble. And if you don't feel confident cooking an entire meal, why not just pick up a few recipes for the occasional doggie treat?

We're not the only one's who love treats. They are a welcome addition to any canine diet. However, treats should be given sparingly and should be monitored. Sure you can buy a variety of delightful doggie snacks at the pet store, but there are also many easy treats that you can make at home. You can be certain that treats cooked in your own kitchen will be made with the finest ingredients. So why not cook your own? A little research and you will find there are hundreds of recipes for you to try out. Here's one to get you started.

Doggie Brownies

Ingredients:
3 cups oats
1 cup whole-wheat flour
2 eggs
¼ cup vegetable oil
¼ cup of molasses
1 cup rice
1 can pumpkin

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
2. Mix all these ingredients together in a bowl.
3. Spread in a greased jelly roll pan.
4. Bake for one hour or until center has set.
5. Cool and then cut into squares.
6. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer.
