As my dogs age, I have found it pays to keep an ear open, and watch them walk away from me at least once a week. Even a little change in gait can signal a joint or spine problem. I have also observed that hearing toenails barely drag on the carpet or tile may be a sign of some nerve problems in the extremities. I just try to be more observant as they're all reaching 10 and above.
