By: Dr. Jon Rappaport

Our question this week was:

Dr. Jon -What are examples antibacterial shampoos? My dogs has some moist red lesions and my vet told me I should wash him in anti-bacterial shampoo.

Denver B. – Lancing, MI

Answer

Hi Denver– thanks for your email. An antibacterial shampoo is a shampoo that is formulated to get rid of or kill bacteria. It is often combined with other agents that can help to get rid of bacteria.

Look for antibacterial shampoos that contain benzoyl peroxide, ethyl lactate, or chlorhexidine.
