Our question this week was:Dr. Jon - What is the dose and what is Arginine used for in pets?
Sherri – Barcelona SpainAnswerHi – thanks for your email. You asked about the dose and use of Arginine in dogs and cats. Arginine, commonly abbreviated as ARG, is a basic amino acid that is a component of most proteins. It has been used to help the immune system. Some also believe that it can help to reduce inflammation and may even reduce cancer growth. The dose used is broad – it is used at 250 to 3000 mg per day, depending on the size of the pet.
I'd recommend that you first consider traditional medicine to evaluate any problem that your dog is having that may lead you to believe that your pet needs it and discuss it with your veterinarian before using.
Best of luck!
