Dr. Jon,

Will massaging sore joint(s) on my dog help relieve pain, until the joint supplements kick in?

Answer

Hi – thanks for your email. You asked will massage of a sore joint help relieve pain? The answer is.... I'm not sure.

To be honest –the joint is a good distance from the skin and most massages don't make much impact on the joint. However, your dog might like it and it might take his mind off his pain. I don't think it will hurt anything as long as he does not act aggressive toward you (if he is painful).

Making sure he has a warm comfortable padded bed and plenty of rest are other things that you can do to help.

An article that might be helpful to you is How to Give Your Dog a Massage.

Best of luck!
