I have 4 beagle mixes, adopted from shelters. All are very loving gentle creatures. Ginny is Jack Russell/beagle mix. She leaps straight up in the air when I get treats or ask her if she wants to go out. She hates thunderstorms and wants to go out and jump and bark at the thunder and lightening. She has watched her adopted brothers so much that she sometimes imitates them by lifting her leg to urinate. It is quite comical. Pirate is Boston terrier/beagle mix. His is a cute brindle and white rascal. Velcro dog describes his personality. He never saw a lap he did not want to leap into. He runs around the fenced in yard like a tazmanian devil. Taz would have been a better name for him. He insists the other dogs play and chace him. If they do not, he chews on their back legs until they do. Gulliver and Sampson are true brothers. They are Boston terrier-beagle mixes also. They are black and white. They came from a puppy mill to a local shelter. They had been abused and were afraid of everyone. It took me six weeks to get them to come out of their doghouse to me for treats. I did not really need 4 dogs, but I felt so sorry for them that I had to give them a home. Gulliver now likes everyone and loves to play fetch with a ball. Sampson still is very leery of unknown people and will bark incessantly at people until he gets to know them. After several meetings he will also go to be petted. He tries to outrun his brother to fetch a ball, but his brother has longer legs and always beats him, therefore I usually throw 2 balls so he can bring me one two. Occasionally they both prance back with the same ball in their mouths and tugging at each other for it. It is so cute. All 4 have become great friends and wrestle around the yard and house. At bedtime, they hear me turn on my noise machine and come running and jump up on the bed. Good thing I have a king size bed. When I leave the house I can hear them all chime in with the most sorrowful howl that you can imagine. They add joy and love to my life. I will always have dogs, and will adopt them from shelters. Do yourselves a favor and rescue a shelter dog. They make wonderful pets. You just have to give them the same unconditional love that they give you to become your best friends.Linda Pratt - Hartford, Ohio
