German Shepherd Dog - Zeke - How he healed my broken heart

I lost Butch, my two-year-old German shepherd, tragically on a cold, winter night. That morning when I left for work, his little happy face was watching me leave through the door...little did I know that it would be the last time I saw him. I later received a call from my husband that he had run away, and after hours of searching, called the police. They said that they just had a report of a dog being hit by a car not a mile from our home. My husband went there to pick up the now lifeless body of my baby.

I don't remember how I got through those next few weeks. I do remember crying each time I came home because my Butch wasn't there to greet me. Eventually, I started to look at the Petfinders.com site for German Shepherds up for adoption. I saw a picture of a Shepherd who was almost two years old, and there was just something that drew me to him. I called the shelter the next day and they told me that a family had given him up because one of the children was allergic to dogs. It was about six weeks now that we had lost Butch, and I just felt that he had sent Zeke to me to heal my broken heart.

We brought Zeke home then, and now it is almost six years later. He has become my trusted, loyal companion. He follows me everywhere and a day doesn't go by that he does something to make me laugh. He loves to play ball and has a collection of stuffed toys, his favorite (right now) being a squirrel. He is very handsome and people always comment on how beautiful he is.

I will never forget my Butch, and I know he is wagging his tail up there, knowing that Zeke has made his mom so happy, and helped her to heal her broken heart.
