Golden Retriever - Danger in wearing collars

Golden Retriever - Danger in wearing collars

By: Karen - O'fallon, Missouri

What happened last night to my 2 goldens, Skye and Cheyenne, had happened once before with cheyenne and Jake. I swore then they would never wear collars around the house anymore. Not listening to my own suggestion almost lost one or possible both of my dogs. They play wrestle all the time. Cheyenne is Skye's mom. While wrestling and grabbing each other by the collar, they somehow got twisted together. Cheyenne had grabbed Skyes collar and at the same time, SKye did a little flip which caused Skyes collar to wrap around Cheyennes bottom jaw tightly. So tight that Cheyenne was crying out in pain and Skye was gagging because she was being strangled by her mom trying to get free from Skye.

It was so horrible hearing the both scared and in pain. Skyes collar was so tight I couldn't fit a scissors underneath it to cut them free. Luckily they somehow freed themselves. I took both dogs collars off of them and they will only be put on when they are outside (in my fenced yard), or on a walk with me. It is such a simple tip to leave the collar off in your house. It scares me to think what would have happened if I hadn't been home with them.
