I have been reading your ecourse on keeping your dog healthy and the symptoms to look for in a dog that might be ill and I have yet to see something about gum color. My golden, Opie, showed no symptoms except a little lethargy last summer. As soon as we took him to the vet the gums were checked and they were almost white. The vet knew that meant he was not producing red blood cells. The prognosis was that he was going to die, nothing could be done. He had liver cancer and died almost immediately even though they thought it was a pancreas problem. I did not even think to check gum color. It has broken my heart and I would hope to help someone else in knowing the symptoms.
