Labrador Retriever - This "Snickers" is "dark" chocolate

By: Alaine Edington - Bloomington, Indiana

I don't know how funny my story is, but this is how I named my lab Snickers. First of all I've got a thing with naming dogs after candy, it seems. Don't ask me why, cause I really don't know.

I'd had a Cocker Spaniel named Cadbury for 17 1/2 yrs. When looking in the newspaper at the pet ads back then, I saw an ad that said someone had lost their dog and "would somebody please help me find Cadbury". When I finally did find a puppy all those years ago, I knew "Cadbury" was what I wanted to name him. He was a loyal companion and it was so devastating when he passed away that I waited 5 years before I was ready to give my heart to another furry friend.

When I finally decided to start looking for a puppy I decided on Labrador retrievers. I'd always like them and had heard how loyal and friendly a pet they were. I began to look and quickly found my puppy. I spent a few days mulling over names and finally decided on Snickers. It didn't even occur to me at the time that I'd chosen another "candy" name for my next dog. Someone pointed this out to me and asked why I always named my dogs after candy? I hadn't even realized I'd done that.

They then quickly pointed out that I had a "black" lab and that "Snickers" should have been a "chocolate" lab's name. Oh well!! I guess this "Snickers" is "dark" chocolate.
