My Labrador Jake is not the brightest bulb on the block, but his unwavering loyalty and devotion more than makes up for his intellectual shortcomings. He is so considerate that he has perfected the art of "whisper barking" so that he does not wake the whole house up when he needs something in the middle of the night.
For example, sometimes he wakes up at 3 am because he's been dreaming of the treats that he knows are in a special cupboard in the kitchen. He then "whispers" with great urgency like he needs to go to the bathroom really, really bad and leads me downstairs not to the door outside but to the treat cupboard where he firmly plants his substantial hind quarters and looks at me and then looks at the cupboard then looks at me again and proceeds to whisper whine until I give him a treat.
Maybe he's not so learning disabled after all. Maybe I'm not so bright because I fall for this every time. He is just so sweet, no one can resist his labradorable brown eyes. He should also have a brown nose because he knows whom to play up to (to get what he wants.)
Jake also is a first class pouter. If he doesn't get his way he refuses to engage in anything with anyone. I swear I've seen him stomp his foot in a major tt. All of these personality traits just make him so much more precious to us. He has brought so much personality and love into our home. Black labs rule!!!
