I saw your story about the danger of feeding cats homemade food. I had to reply. I've seen this sort of petfood propaganda popping up since the petfood scare. I have been feed my pets (cats and dogs) homemade food for years without problem.
We keep our pets in an artificial world and feed them artificial food and wonder why they become ill. Just think of it this way. If you ate corn flakes and can tuna fish everyday, how would you feel?
If you look at the list of petfoods recalled, you can see that basicly all these companies draw from one source which makes you wonder how different from each other they are. It is all the same junk food.
I've seen from my cats (and dogs) when I feed them homemade food that they selectivly eat certain items at different times. For instance, I see that I feed my dogs a meal with carrots, potatoes, and some meat, they will eat the carrots over the potatoes on one day and the next time they'll eat the potatoes over the carrots. The same thing with the cats. They know what they need in their diet and will pick it out by eating cetain things.
I do feed my pets petfood as well because I do not always have time to cook for them. I think there is some benefit from the petfood but not as much as there is from homemade food.
It angers me to see these reports where they say homemade food is bad, so feed them the same petfood everyday of there lives. I just wonder who funds these things- PetFoodDirect??? I really do not expect to see this posted, but someone has to say it.
So share your food with your pet and I do not mean tv dinners and hotdogs; because if it is bad for you, it is bad for them. The pets will appreciate the varity and health will too.
