Everyday with Lucy is an amazing adventure. Lucy has so much love in her tiny body for me and my husband that we cherish every day with her. The three of us recently lived through the loss of Lucy's sister, Libby. Our little family was a happy one...Libby was devoted to my husband and Lucy was totally devoted to me. The death of Libby changed the dynamics of our family.
But Lucy seemed to know how devastated my husband was and seemed determined to make him her...if not favorite person...second favorite. She has really tried to help him grieve. I really believe this. She spends her day with me...we have a stroller for her and we take walks and play and just enjoy our life together. But when my husband comes home...she makes it her job to sit with him and focus on him and give him what he is missing because of the death of Libby.
It is so sweet to see because this is something she never did before Libby died. My husband and Libby had a Monday night football routine...that never varied...they would sit downstairs and watch football...Libby sound asleep on his chest. Lucy and I would retreat upstairs. The evening of the first football game was a sad one for my husband...losing this tradition was very difficult for him. I was determined to stay with him but as soon as the game came on...Lucy leaped from my lap to his...as though to say...I will help you through it...the smile on both of their faces was amazing...so that is why I know that Lucy has a great heart and a great soul.
