Yorkshire Terrier - Duke, My Yorkie, my Dream Come True

Yorkshire Terrier - Duke, My Yorkie, my Dream Come True

Duke is just about the cutest thing I have ever seen, he only weighs 2 pounds. I am a very lonely person. It has never been easy for me to make friends and since I have become disabled I spent a lot of time at home by myself. My husband has always been my best friend, but he is not here as much as I am. I have a cat, but she is very independent and not a very good companion. I have always wanted a yorkie but felt we could never afford one, because of our kids or our grandkids.

This passed winter my depression and loneliness had made me almost despite, my anxiety was so bad I never left the house, unless it was with my husband or my daughter. I keep seeing all these little dogs on television, every sitcom had a dog, and even the dramas had pets on them. I decided to think a little selfishly and started looking for a Yorkie.

I mentioned this to my daughter and son-in-law and they told me that his sister worked with a lady that breed yorkies and had a litter due in just a couple of weeks. The breeder told Amy she would give me a good deal, but she does not release her puppies until they are 12 weeks old. I kept waiting to hear they had been born and if I was getting a boy or a girl. Finally the first part of May I found out they were here and I would be able to get one in just one week and it would cost me $400.00. That week in May from the 5th to the 12th was the longest week of my life.

When the day finally arrived you would have thought I was on my way to see my first grandchild. My daughter drove me to pick him up, it was about 40 miles from my house and the closer we came the more excited I got. I didn't get to pick him out; Nancy just put him in my hands. At first I thought she had given me an empty towel, but then I felt a wiggle and I found him all curled up in my small hand. It was love at first sight. Duke is my perfect companion. I can't lift over 10 lbs, and he will never weigh more than 3 lbs. I can carry him around all day and my back or legs will never hurt. Duke likes to be carried, he likes to sleep on me and he likes to be loved on. He gives me what I need and I will try to give him what he wants and needs.
