My dog Niko and I were inseparable. Love me, love my dog was exactly how I felt. If a guy didn't love my dog, he surely wasn't someone worth dating.
Then I met Chuck and he "liked" my dog. However the true measure of the man was revealed when he took Niko out for his walk one Saturday afternoon. While he was walking, a guy in a truck yelled out to him, "I take a bigger sh*t than your dog!" Chuck couldn't think quickly enough and stormed inside and swore he wouldn't walk the dog anymore. Now I would've had a few choice come-backs for that driver...but then again, don't piss off the mommy!
Needless to say that relationship ended not much longer after. Chuck's insecurities and true personality became apparent, and Niko was always there...consistent, loving, confident, and could always put a smile on my face.
When I started dating my current boyfriend, I really fell in love with him when I saw how great he was with Niko. Here I had a 6' tall tough, rugby player go completely mush with my little Yorkie. I would joke that he's only with me for my dog...which is fine with me. Love me, love my dog...we're a package.
