Tips on Deaf Cats

Have you ever wondered why your cat doesn't seem to respond to your calls? Maybe he is deaf. White cats with blue eyes tend to have a high incidence of deafness. This is related to a genetic abnormality. The gene for white hair coat and blue eyes has been found to be related to underdevelopment of the hearing organs. These cats are born deaf but can adapt to their surroundings and learn to use other clues in place of hearing. For safety, it is not recommended to allow deaf cats to wander outdoors. To determine if your cat is deaf or just stubborn, see your veterinarian.
